MMS

Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) is a new standard in mobile messaging. Like SMS (Short Messaging Service), MMS is a way to send a message from one mobile to another. The difference is that MMS can include not just text, but also sound, images and video. It is also possible to send MMS messages from a mobile phone to an email address.

MMS is an extension of the SMS protocol, making its usage familiar to existing SMS users. An MMS message is a single entity, not a collection of attachments. One of the main practical differences between MMS and SMS is that whilst SMS messages are limited to 160 bytes, an MMS message has no size limit and could be many Kbytes in size, or even larger. MMS requires a third generation (3G) network to enable such large messages to be delivered, although smaller messages can be sent even with second generation networks using GPRS.

VOIP

VoIP (voice over IP) is an IP telephony term for a set of facilities used to manage the delivery of voice information over the Internet.VoIP involves sending voice information in digital form in discrete packets rather than by using the traditional circuit-committed protocols of the public switched telephone network (PSTN). A major advantage of VoIP and Internet telephony is that it avoids the tolls charged by ordinary telephone service.

IP stands for Internet Protocol. An IP address is a long and unique number that devices use to identify and communicate with each other. When you log into the internet your computer equipment is essentially given a unique (to keep the explanation simple) number.

Broadband

Broadband refers to a form of telecommunication that allows large amounts of information to be transmitted to your home computer from the outside world, e.g. from the Internet. Broadband transfers data at least 10 times faster than standard dial-up, because it provides wide band of frequencies to transfer data at the same time…in other words a much fatter pipe to push data through.

ADSL Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line, or DSL for short. is a high-speed Internet access service that utilizes existing copper telephones lines to send and receive data at speeds that far exceed conventional dial-up modems.

3G

3G or 3rd generation is the 3rd generation of telicomuncations is the current generation of cellular transmission, which primarily features higher speeds for Internet access and real-time video. In the U.S., the major 3G technologies are EV-DO for CDMA networks, such as used by Verizon and Sprint, and HSDPA for GSM networks for carriers such as AT&T and T-Mobile. For example, the iPhone 3G, Apple's second generation iPhone, uses HSDPA, a 3G technology.

Devices

mobile phone - is a portable device in which you can call and text people all over the world but with most new mobile phones you can connect to the internet and also lisen to music.
personal digital assistant - is used by bussiness men to put in meetings and organise dates and meetings this device is also used by delivery men to imput signatures.
ipod - devices use to lissen to music and watch videos and sometimes play games.
webcam - used to communicate visualy over the internet as face to face talks are alot more productive.
headsets - used to transfer audio acros the web to other people also used by call centres
Bluetooth devices -used to be a simple system to connect diffrent divices together bluetooth is a very simple way to connect diffrent devices together to share files such as videos and music are some of the most common items to be sent over bluetooth.
Bluetooth is a radio frequency based cable replacement technology Bluetooth can also replace cabling in a more static environment i.e. between desktop computers and printers. A device has to be Bluetooth enabled (i.e. contain a Bluetooth chip) to be able to use a Bluetooth connection.

XboxLive - an online system in which millions of people around the world can access games, movies music and much much more. this online system allows friends to play with someone from anywhere in the world. xboxlive also has the capability of using facebook and also being able to chat to your friends .
Wii Speak - an oline system in which people who have a wii can talk to people they know and also communicate to other online players.

A bitmap is one of many types of file formats for images stored in a computerized form. It carries the extension .BMP. Computers use bits of 1 and 0 to store data. A bitmap is literally a map of bits that form a particular picture when rendered to a display like a computer monitor.
To understand how a bitmap image displays, it’s important to understand the computer display screen. The display is made up of rows and columns of tiny blocks, or pixels. In a bitmap image, each pixel is assigned at least one bit to indicate whether the pixel should reflect the background color, the foreground color, or some other color.

vector

Vector graphics is the creation of digital images through a sequence of commands or mathematical statements that place lines and shapes in a given two-dimensional or three-dimensional space. In physics, a vector is a representation of both a quantity and a direction at the same time. In vector graphics, the file that results from a graphic artist's work is created and saved as a sequence of vector statements. For example, instead of containing a bit in the file for each bit of a line drawing, a vector graphic file describes a series of points to be connected. One result is a much smaller file.

today and yesterday i was planning on doing nothin and playin xbox but i didnt well not all day :) but i spent most of day looking at what work i had available and added ideas notes and all that and on monday i must print off the work which is on the pc so it will be all ready.

Today, there are alomost an unstopible amout of different brand logos that signify different companies, infact we see them all the time, nearly constantly infact and we may not even notice it. The brand logo is the identity of a company and something that makes it different too all others.

Something that is designed to stay and be recognized. Both marketing companies and organizations rely strongly on the way their brand is seen and recognized from something as simple as a logo or slogan. Each company aims to have a unique, relevant and recognizable logo for their company or product, and this is all part of that companies branding.

today i finished doing the designs fo the main project also asked juilian about what else we needed in our production file. he gave loads of feed back and as it turns out were not that far behind, which means we can still hit the deadline if we work together and do the work thats needed.

IDEAS

after all we have finished the filming and most of the editing before half term which was good and we also learned how to speed up the video thanks to Julian's help. i have been looking at buying adobe to use on this project but for now will be using what the college has to offer also when we did the filming we did not take any sound or interviews which we need asap.

GSM-Global System for Mobile Communications

GSM-Global System for Mobile Communications is a digital mobile telephone system that is widely used in Europ. GSM uses a variation of Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) and is the most widely used of the three digital wireless telephone technologies (TDMA, GSM, and CDMA). GSM digitizes and compresses data, then sends it down a channel with two other streams of user data, each in its own time slot. It operates at either the 900 MHz or 1,800 MHz frequency band.

WAP-Wireless Application Protocol

WAP-Wireless Application Protocol is Mostly used for accessing the mobile web from a Mobile phone or from a PDA. which are used massively by everyone in this modern age from business men to children have mobile phones which have the capability to connect to the internet.

WAP supports most wireless networks. These include CDPD, CDMA, GSM, PDC, PHS, TDMA, FLEX, ReFLEX, iDEN, TETRA, DECT, DataTAC, and Mobitex. WAPs that use displays access the internet and run what are called microbrowsers--browsers with small file sizes that can accommodate the low memory constraints of handheld devices and the low-bandwidth constraints of a wireless-handheld network.

Although WAP supports HTML and XML, the WML language (an XML application) is specifically devised for small screens and one-hand navigation without a keyboard. WML is scalable from two-line text displays up through graphic screens found on items such as smart phones and communicators.

After looking at the film in college i have spent most of to day and yesterday looking at websites that are very interactive. their are many different idea and concepts i like but a lot are to difficult for us at this moment in time but will hopefully change when we learn how to best use the skills we have as a group.

we also need to sit down on Monday and think about what we have to do and how much time we have left and on Tuesday i plan to be looking over the film at home. so that i can see what we have and can make a little peace on new ideas and plans for how we can make this work for us. in the class we are the only ones doing this sort of idea but we should look at ideast that others have so we can refine our idea a bit more also letting others look at are idea 2. we have to be fare and not keep an idea too our self as we want to have some feed back which we can use to make ours better.

blogs and forums

blogs and disscusion forums differ, forums are away of putting a short reponce to a question unlike blogs which can be as long as you like. often people use the forums to answer questions unlike bogs which are used for many diffrent things from what the person did to basic infomation on a topic or someone opinions on a topic.


often you will find that forums are more used than blogs as they are often short informal peaces of text. with blogs the text can be anything according to your topic and are often extreamly long.

Emails and IMs

E-mail is fast. No matter where you're sending your message, whether it's on the other side of town or on the other side of the planet, even the most rambling missive still takes only seconds or, at most, minutes to reach its destination. Nowadays, whenever I send regular mail (or snail mail as e-mail aficionados snidely refer to mail sent through the post office), I shudder to think it's actually going to take days to reach its destination. How primitive!

E-mail is cheap. Outside of your normal online connection charges, Internet e-mail costs precisely nothing (although some commercial e-mail systems do charge a nominal fee after you've sent a certain number of messages or characters). Unlike long distance telephone calls, you pay no more for messages sent to London, Ohio, or London, Ontario, or London, England.

E-mail is practically universal. Not only do millions of people on the Internet use e-mail, but every major e-mail system in the world has built-in electronic "bridges" (called gateways) that allow their users to send messages to and receive messages from the Internet. Yeah, sure, your aunt in Boise may not be wired, but just give the old gal some time.

The cons:


E-mail messages are easily stored. "Hey, wait a minute! I thought that was a pro." Well, it is, but there's a downside to this easy storage. If you say nasty things about your boss or a colleague in a message, a saved copy of your tirade could easily resurface and come back to haunt you sometime in the future. A good rule to follow is to assume your message will be read by the general public and to write accordingly.

E-mail can only handle text. The big advantage that snail mail and couriers have over e-mail is that you can send things like Christmas presents and food. E-mail is a text-only medium, which limits the types of things you can send. Things are getting better, though. Most modern e-mail programs let you "attach" things like graphics, sound files, and other types of documents.


IMs

instant messengers have taken the young people of today by storm 58% (online statstics) use them and more are joining every day, big social networking services like facebook are using this system to incorage more users.

the big advatage is you can use the system any where in the world as long as you have a internet connection. it is instant where ever you location on earth.

Pros and Cons

While instant messaging has become one of the most popular activities on the net for kids, teens and adults some people feel it is an invasion of privacy.
Although instant messaging can be a beneficial way to keep in touch with friends, family and co-workers some feel it is also annoying to always have someone know when you are online.
While the argument is true, most IM programs have feature-rich clients that help you avoid this scenario.
It is particularly important for kids to learn about safety issues with IM and how to protect your privacy.

adobe

to day i used adobe to recreate a Storm tracker logo. i had a major problem as i didn't make the text big when i started so when i re sized it, it pixleated and became really rubbish but the rest of the project worked fine.

things i learned
.always make text bigger than you need.
.photopshop is really easy to use and can be used for many different things
.listen more carefully so that i don't make mistakes

i found photoshop to be really easy when you get into it so i will use it in the future to do work on like the create a website peace which I'm working on now so this can help the concept of merging items together really helped in the work and must use the shift button when resizing images.

GPRS what is it?

GPRS

General packet radio service (GPRS) is used in over 200 countries its a orentied mobile data service on the 2g and 3g cellular networks. it was origainoly standardised in the European Telecommunications Standards Institute. it is a an enhancement to the earlier 2g networks to enable them to receve data more rapidly. with the GPRS the phone is "always on" and this enables the user to send and recveive data amedetly unlike with the older 2g which could take upto 30 seconds and then you would be charged for that time. this improvement from the 14.4 kbps up to 32-48 kbps is a massive improvement also you can send or receive a voice call at the same time as reciving data.

It is one of the systems which helps to improve 2g network closer to the performances of the 3g networks, 3g has the capable of transfering large amounts of data (upto 2 mbps) which enables applications like internet and video calls. GPRS allows the 2g network to use some of these applications.
